Dad
On this day, 1st November 2015, my dear dad turns 70. On this special day I wish I could be there to give you a hug. To express to you how much I love you. To tell you how much I admire every moment of your life and to remind you of all the times we've shared.
From our very first father and kids camping trip with the yellow Combi in Richardsbay, to each and every hike or beach walk we took together. Your wander lust, your love for nature and the outdoors that also rubbed off on me. Teaching me how to tackle the outdoors, roughing it and still enjoying every single minute. Instilling in me the love for freedom of the outdoors without limits.
Your love for taking your bicycle trips on roads less traveled. You courage and endurance in taking long, multi day, solo beach hikes, sleeping under the stars, making friends with everyone you meet along the way. Your ability to engage with strangers as if they were long-time friends, taught me that everyone that cross our path do so for a reason and have the potential to become a friend. You taught me when to trust someone and when not.
Your love for all things physical. At an early age you taught me to windsurf. Our windsurf Sunday's spent together. The weekends we spent next to the soccer field, watching you play soccer, instilling in both your kids a good ball sense. Watching you not only play a brilliant game of ice hockey, but also coaching. The time we spent with you at the Sterland ice rink and the love you brewed in us for ice skating. We could almost ice skate before we could walk.
The lessons you taught me in avoiding making debt. To work hard for the things I want and always to buy cash. To appreciate all I have and never to give up on the things I don't yet have. Your love for second hand stores and your ability to always find a bargain. One man's junk is another man's treasure.
You taught me how to be a strong woman in a man's world and never to doubt my abilities. To be a woman that is independent, whether it be financially or just being able to change a tyre or a plug. Your handyman skills are admirable. Your perfectly laid our garage , everything having it's place.
You showed me that whatever I get in life must be worked for and it must be earned. I thank you for raising me, for loving me and for teaching me your ways. I wish you all the love in the world.
Have a wonderful 70th birthday!
Your love of the outdoors
