Out & About - Interesting morning at Harley Davidson Pretoria

Spent an early Sunday morning at Harley Davidson Pretoria to have breakfast with my brother Ralf, one of the salesmen at the shop.
This is also the start of every Sunday mornings Harley rally. Interesting to see the gear, outfits and of course the bikes.
Great bunch of friendly riders. Nice to bump into my dear friend Johan "Johnny" Taute.
Definitely going to having breakfast there more often.

I now have the photo, suppose now all I need is the
jacket, boots, helmet and bike....yeah right!
Frank still just admiring the machines.

Brand new feature to my blog

I've added another feature to this blog. You will notice a new tab on the selection bar above called BOTTLED POETRY.

There are so may occasions fit for a good bottle of wine. Be it an occasion where we share it with good friends or simply a quite Friday night at home in front of the stereo. The variety of wine is endless. Will there ever be enough days in a lifetime to taste each of them? Probably not, but it's worth a try. And anyway no great story every started with someone eating a salad.

So I've decided to record some of the wines that I am going to be enjoying. I don't label myself  a wine connoisseur, it fact I could not be further from that. My intention is purely to share my experience of the wine. That in itself is something I also still have to master......finding the words to describe what I like or don't like and then getting you guys to understand what I mean. I am however going to give it my best shot and hopefully I can help you in deciding which one you will taste next.

I hope you find the new feature interesting and informative  . . . .  enjoy.

"If I ever I go missing  I would like my photo to be put on wine bottles instead of milk cartons, that way my friends will know to look for me"

Missing you

Today a year ago we tragically had to have our beloved Patches put down..........I still miss you every single day my little friend. In the meantime your pups have grown up into lovable companions. Vanilla is your splitting image and is as gentle a soul as you were Patches. Coco is our lightning bolt, full of energy and spunk, just like her dad Toffee. Toffee has enough pride in him for his offspring to make up for the pride that you too would have had. You were a fabulous mother to your puppies. The other two, Roxy and Milo are still with there new owners and living up the high life.

Thinking of you today Patches. RIP my dear little friend, we miss you every day tremendously. xxx

With both our children recently celebrating their birthday's, just a little dedication to both of them. This song always reminds me of them.

Treurgrond

Treurgrond

“ – Steve Hoffmeyer, Hoe Lank Nog.

Hier is haar toespraak ……..

If I were to say to you that there is a giant playground other there, a place where you can run for 20 minutes in one direction without bumping into a  traffic light or a Mc Donalds. A place where you will experience more sunrises and sunsets than most kids our age. A place where you can shoot sling shots at the neighbour’s house without fear of breaking a window, because the closest neighbour is at least half a mile away. Where everyone owns a dog leash, but never has to use it. Would you still want to live in the city? Its farm life and it’s not just a giant playground but it’s also the University of Life.

It teaches you to respect the land. By being around to witness the life cycle of a crop from planting to harvesting, it teaches you to appreciate that the land gives and sustains life. It fosters independence.  Because there is so much land, you spend a lot of time outdoors not only exploring but also taking charge of your chores and just getting the job done. It fosters creativity. City entertainment is a luxury and not always easily accessible to people living on a farm, so you are forced to make your own fun and rely on your imagination. It demands disciple and hard work. The work on a farm is never done. Your work starts with the rise of the sun and you continue till the stars tell you you’re done for the day. It teaches you to be handy. From an early age you learn to hitch a trailer, change a tire, mend a fence. You learn respect for the weather. A drought has hash repercussions for the farming world, as does a hailstorm or a late frost. Being aware that the weather directly impacts the crops, helps you appreciate the ways of Mother Nature. It teaches you to stand up when you fall. As a farm girl you’re bound to be chased by a chicken, bucked off a horse, cut by a barb-wire fence, kicked by a cow and fall off a tractor, but you’ll get up, dust yourself off and carry on. Why..? because you can be as sweet as ice tea, but you’re as tough as a shot of whiskey.

Farm life has a way of helping you to appreciate the little things in life, acquiring a wild and free sense of living. You come to realize that stopping for fast food means walking the fields and picking a farm fresh tomato or a juicy ripe peach. It’s coming to appreciate the power of three, a campfire, a hammock and a long stretch of river. Fashion takes on a new meaning because now you wear your cowgirl boots, not matter the occasion and your little piece of heaven is the driver’s seat in your pick-up truck. It opens your eyes to the fact that you could never love a man that doesn’t love his dog, a romantic dinner is best enjoyed around a bonfire opposed to a flickering candle and country music becomes the sound track to your life. It’s waking up every morning to the sounds of birds signing, sprinklers turning and the sound of a simple, beautiful innocent way of life.

This is still her outlook on life…..how do I go about preserving that without bursting her bubble? Our country  bleeds and we need to stand together and fight, fight, fight and restore it to its prior innocence.

As daar een rolprent is wat jy hierdie jaar gaan kyk, maak seker dis Treurgrond!

Ordinary Angels

Just because God does not part the sea or pull you from the fire
does not mean that He’s not there, His finger prints are everywhere.
When the mountain that you’re climbing seems so tall
and the battle that you’re fighting makes you feel so all alone
it does not mean you’re on your own
because when you need it most the world is full of ordinary angels.
Ordinary Angels by Tate Stevens

Out & About - A day out with Shay

Spent a very interesting day out with our son. Visit to Freedom Park and Voortrekker Monument. Shay had to take various images for a project and both places of interest had plenty to offer.

I had visited the Voortrekker Monument on numerous occasions, but was pleasantly surprised at what Freedom Park had to offer. Really impressed, we will definitely visit this attraction again.

Freedom Park has so many nooks and crannies with interesting spots.
It's so peaceful there you never want to leave.

Boys will be boys. The "child" in all of us is always there.
Shoes off . . . into the water.

View of Unisa from Freedom Park

. . . . . in the water again!

Panoramic views of Pretoria from Feedom Park

It's all about getting that shot . . . .  no matter the position you have to take!

DIY - Kaylin's room takes shape.

All these proudly handmade for my daughter. . . . with love.

From old wooden pallets to a rustic headboard . . . . .

From old cupboard doors to beside pedestals . . . . . . .

From large empty dog food tins, to all purpose containers. . . . . . .

From an old white wicker dustbin, to a totally new look revamp . . . .

The room is still work in progress, but it's starting to take shape ever so slowly. Will post more photos as we progress. Keep watching this space.

2015-05-02 . . . . . .and finally the room is done.
