It's not where you go but who you travel with and travelling and spending time with family is always time well spent. A recent family trip to Clarens in the Free State was exactly that.
You know you in the Free State when you can almost see into the future.

Clarens is a beautiful little town in the Free State with lots to offer.
The country side is breathtaking, the streets have interesting little shops
and the people are friendly
Clearens is also the gateway to the ever famous Golden Gate Nature Reserve with
it's spectacular mountain ranges, fauna and floura
It was winter and we were hoping to find some snow caps on the mountains but sadly we had just missed the best of it. None the less the days were lovely and the evenings cold. Nothing like a huddle around a fire to keep warm and cosy. Oh and of course a glass of OBS.

The town is small but there is plenty to do.
Restaurants serving amazing food, beer, gin & choclate tasting, an awesome bakery.
Many interesting little shops to get lost in.
It's not only the little town that has a lot to offer but so too the surrounding areas.
There are plenty of hiking trails (long and short), there is a nearby waterfall and the Golden Gate Nasional Park also offers visitors the opportunity to spot some game.
Our last day in Clarens dawned cold but beautifully
It was definitely a very memorable weekend and a
destination that will see us return time and time again.
