Sungazer Pilgrimage 2021-05

So what is the Sungazer Prilgrimage? It is a circular hiking or cycling route spanning over 200km. Daily distances vary and every night you stay over in the most amazing guest/farm houses. You get dinner bed and breakfast. It's slack pack so you only carry with you your daily rations. Every morning the rest of your belongings are transported to the next overnight pitstop (in our case we arranged our own support vehicle for this task). This is the brainchild of Renee Coetzee Wolfaardt, who had the foresight and the intitiative to establish the pilgrimage. The Sungazer is a lizzard (Ouvolk akkedis) that can be found in the Free State and south Eastern Mpumalanga. It's habitat is being threatened which now makes it a scarce and endangered species. It is the only lizzard that burrows tunnels underground.

Day 1: We arrive and meet in Paul Roux at the Pink Tricycle. My first visit to Paul Roux. Our overnight accommodation at Dunlin B&B.

After a scrumptions dinner (3 course) we receive our Pilgrimage Passport kit.
I was not going to cycle with the rest of the girls as I was the "trokkie bokkie". I was responsible for driving the truck that carrried all their stuff to the next location and also to provide roadside support.

Day 2: The team get an early start departing from PinkTricycle and heading towards Uniondale Game Farm.

End of day one and the team arrives at Uniondale Game Farm

The farm is also know for the dinosaur print that was found on one of the rocks on the property.

Day 3: We leave Uniondale Game Farm and head for Willowdene Guest Farm.
