Tembe Elephant Park KZN

Tembe Elephant Park . . . . .who knew!!!!????
We always rush to the more comercialized, very expensive,
over crowded game parks we have all come to know.
Till recently I also did not know this park existed.
What a treat . . . .

Celebrating our 31st wedding anniversay and there was no better place !

Staff are super friendly, accommodation is stylish and comfortable
and you are left wanting for absoloutely nothing.
Accommodation is in glam tents and the tents are spread far from one another,
surrounded by thick vegetation so you don't know you have a neighbour.

The outside shower was an absolute treat
even though I had to share it with a creepy crawly or two.
Definition of a hot shower: a regular shower with me in it.

The dining hall is open plan serving 4 scruptious meals a day.
- light breakfast at 05h40 prior to your morning game drive
- full breakfast at 09h00 after returning from the 3 hour game drive
- lunch is at 14h00
- dinner at 19h30 and the call to dinner is the ever popular
african drum beat
The dinner menu always presented something exciting and always 3 courses.
Nyala Chops, Kudu Kebabs just some of the interresting things on offer.
Always something different to look forward to.

They have a fully stocked bar and it's the perfect place to enjoy sundowners.

The boma area is a welcoming space to enjoy a relaxing afternoon under the trees,

listening to the sounds of the bush.

For a more cozy undercover (incase of rainy days) area, is the enclosed reading nook where you can browse through the library of books or play one of the many available board games.

Even just relaxing at the pool on a scorching day is a treat.

But we were in the bush and game drives were definitely the reason we we here.
They offer 2, 3-hour games drives per day in open 4-wheel drive vehicles.
One game drive at 06h00 and the second at 15h00.

Our driver and ranger, Khulu, was knowledgable not only on the big game but
also the little creatures, birds, spoor and vegetation.

We marveled at the tripod of a giraffe bent to drink water.

"The buzz from the bees was that the leopards were in a bit of a spot.
The baboons were going ape over this, but of course the
giraffes were acting like they were above it all"

Zebra crossings have a whole new meaning here.

The Elephant (child of mammoth) the main attraction to this amazing park.
We found ourselves in the presence of giants.

They say elephants never forget. What they don't tell you is,
you never forget an elephant.

Interesting fact: look at the tusks on an elephant. If the one tusk is more worn
than the other then that's the elephant's dominant side. This elephant is a lefty.

The circle of life. One cannot survive without the existence of the other.

All big things start small and let us never foget to notice the smaller creatures.

Khulu, our driver had "bush eyes" was it not for him we may have missed
 some of the smaller sightings.

When you look close enough even the vegetation was putting on a show.

There is nothing more beautiful than an african sunset in the bush
(Sadly I did not have my Canon with me, this cellphone image
does this moment no justice)

Actually there in one other thing that come close . . . . rain in the bush.
(Turn up your sound).

Bless the rains down in Africa

They say everything in Africa bites, but the safari bug is the worst.
If you ever get to visit two continents in your lifetime . . . .
visit Africa twice !

Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up,
it knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up,
it knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle,
or it will starve.
It does not matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle,
when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.
